In The Reconstruction of the Religious Thought in Islam,
Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938), known as the poet-philosopher of
Islam, offers an inspiring discourse on a number of vital issues
related to Islam such as the meaning of the religious experience, the
reason and revelation, the concept of God, the meaning of the
prayer, the religious reform and secularism, and Islam’s relationship
with the West. Iqbal’s reflections, given as lectures in British India in
the early decades of the twentieth century, and later published,
have been translated into major world languages like Arabic,
German, French, Spanish, Indonesian and Urdu. Appearing in Italian,
for the first time, the themes of the lectures are still relevant in the
West, as the world of Islam and the West are encountering each
other in an unprecedented way in today’s multicultural world.
